Chennai Super Kings pacer Khaleel Ahmed, who has represented India in 11 ODIs and 18 T20Is, recently showered praise on India’s ODI captain Rohit Sharma, calling him a “gem” and expressing hope that he continues playing for another decade. In an interview with RevSportz, the 27-year-old left-arm fast bowler from Rajasthan highlighted Rohit’s unique qualities, both as a cricketer and a leader.

“I feel Rohit Sharma should play for the next 10 years for the good of Indian cricket, and that’s my personal feeling,” Khaleel Ahmed said, underlining the immense value the 38-year-old brings to the team. His comments come amid ongoing speculation about Rohit’s future in ODI cricket, with many experts suggesting that the Mumbai-based stalwart may soon retire from the format.
Khaleel Ahmed recounted a personal experience that cemented his respect for Rohit. During a 2019 series against Bangladesh in Rajkot, Khaleel struggled on the field, taking only a single wicket. Post-match, while the rest of the team left the stadium, Rohit stayed behind to offer guidance and encouragement.

“He told me I am unaware of my own capabilities and that I should wish success for myself and stay positive,” Khaleel Ahmed revealed. He added that seeing Rohit interact similarly with Rishabh Pant further demonstrated his leadership qualities.

The CSK bowler also praised Rohit’s fitness and commitment. “Recently I met him at the CoE during the Duleep Trophy, and he looked very fit, so I asked him to stay like that and keep playing. I have hardly seen such a captain and person in my life; he is a gem, and I have a lot of respect and love for him,” Khaleel said.
Rohit Sharma, who last played for India in the final of the Champions Trophy 2025, is expected to feature in India’s upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia next month.
