India’s ODI captain Rohit Sharma sparked concern late Monday night when he was spotted entering a hospital in Mumbai. While the reason for his visit remains undisclosed, fans have flooded social media with messages wishing him good health. The veteran opener was seen quietly walking into the facility as paparazzi bombarded him with questions, but he chose to remain silent.

The 38-year-old has been training rigorously in Mumbai under the guidance of former India assistant coach Abhishek Nayar. Recently, he also underwent a fitness assessment at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, where several India players gathered ahead of upcoming international commitments.

Currently, the spotlight is on Suryakumar Yadav’s T20I squad, which has already arrived in the UAE to prepare for the Asia Cup 2025, starting September 9. Having retired from both Tests and T20Is, Rohit Sharma is now a one-format specialist, focusing solely on ODIs. Reports suggest he is on track to lead India during the white-ball series in Australia scheduled for October-November, marking his international return.

Interestingly, there is speculation that Rohit Sharma might also feature in a three-match one-day series for India A against Australia A in Kanpur between September 30 and October 5. This move could help him gain crucial match practice ahead of the high-profile tour.

Rohit Sharma last played for India in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy final, where he scored a match-winning 76 off 83 balls to guide India to victory over South Africa, securing yet another ICC trophy for the Men in Blue.

Meanwhile, former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif has sparked debate over India’s Asia Cup squad, pointing out the absence of a third genuine all-rounder. He compared it to India’s T20 World Cup-winning team under Rohit Sharma, which featured Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, and Ravindra Jadeja, providing balance and depth.

“At the Asia Cup, with only two genuine all-rounders — Hardik and Axar — India will have to find a new winning combination. Washington Sundar will be missed,”Mohammad Kaif wrote on X, underlining the team’s challenge heading into the tournament.

As fans wait for clarity on Rohit’s fitness, all eyes are on his return to lead India’s ODI campaign later this year.
