The Uttarakhand High Court has sought a response from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) over petitions alleging serious financial irregularities within the Cricket Association of Uttarakhand (CAU). The controversy revolves around claims of misused government funds, inflated expenses, and poor facilities for state players, despite large sums being spent on paper.

The case surfaced after Dehradun resident Sanjay Rawat and others filed petitions citing an audit report of CAU’s accounts for the 2024–25 financial year. The report, prepared by an independent chartered accountant, revealed shocking entries—most notably INR 35 lakh allegedly spent on bananas for players.

The audit also flagged INR 6.4 crore under event management fees and INR 26.3 crore as tournament and trial expenses, marking a steep rise from INR 22.3 crore the previous year. Petitioners argue that despite these expenditures, state cricketers received neither proper training facilities nor basic equipment.

They allege the funds earmarked for cricket development were siphoned off through inflated heads of expenditure. Taking note of the claims, Justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari issued notices to the BCCI, asking the board to clarify its oversight role since CAU was granted full membership in 2019.

Petitioners insist that the national body cannot turn a blind eye to alleged corruption when it has disbursed over INR 22 crore to CAU for cricketing development. In a separate plea, former CAU vice-president Surendra Bhandari raised concerns about irregularities in awarding the tender for the Uttarakhand Premier League (UPL) 2025, scheduled from September 23.
