India all-rounder Washington Sundar has signed with Hampshire for the final two rounds of the County Championship 2025, keeping himself in rhythm ahead of India’s packed home season. Although Sundar was in contention for the Asia Cup squad, the team management opted for Axar Patel, Varun Chakaravarthy, and Kuldeep Yadav to handle the spin duties. The stint in England gives him valuable game time while ensuring he remains in the selectors’ radar for the Test side.

Sundar was part of India’s squad that toured England earlier this year for the five-match Test series. He emerged as a key contributor, scoring 284 runs in four matches at an average of 47.33, including a memorable century at Old Trafford that saved the fourth Test for Shubman Gill’s men. With the ball, the 25-year-old picked up seven wickets, further underlining his value as an all-rounder.

Hampshire confirmed his signing with an official statement, recalling his previous county experience in 2022 when he represented Lancashire and claimed a five-wicket haul on debut against Northamptonshire.

Club Director of Cricket Giles White expressed delight at Sundar’s arrival, highlighting his strong form against England. “We’re delighted to bring Washington to the club for the County Championship. He had an excellent series against England this summer and he’ll play a key role with two big games coming up against Somerset and Surrey,” White said.

Across his First-Class career so far, Sundar has played 40 matches, scoring 1,885 runs and picking up 91 wickets. His addition provides Hampshire with both batting stability and a quality spin option as they look to finish their campaign on a high.
