Former India cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin has drawn sharp comparisons between the batting approaches of India and Pakistan, stressing that Pakistan’s lack of technique and tactical awareness is costing them dearly in T20Is. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ashwin pointed out that Pakistan’s batting lacks “class” and composure, especially against world-class bowling attacks.

The recent clash between the arch-rivals once again highlighted this contrast. Pakistan had a disastrous start as Saim Ayub was dismissed in the very first over by Hardik Pandya, leaving them on the back foot. Ashwin noted that, apart from Ayub, none of the Pakistani batters showed the confidence or footwork needed at this level.

In stark comparison, Ashwin praised Abhishek Sharma, who fearlessly stepped out on the very first ball against Shaheen Shah Afridi and executed his strokes with authority. “Abhishek knew Afridi would look for swing with a full delivery. He anticipated it and countered aggressively, something top batters do. But has Afridi studied him enough from the IPL?” Ravichandran Ashwin questioned.

On the other hand, Ravichandran Ashwin criticized Mohammad Haris, who attempted a wild heave against Jasprit Bumrah, only to miscue it sky-high. “You cannot play across the line against Bumrah. This isn’t Oman—you have to respect the bowler’s skill,” Ashwin remarked.

He also pointed out that Pakistan’s younger batters like Hasan Nawaz were guilty of similar mistakes, swinging without foot movement. In contrast, Tilak Varma showcased versatility by mixing strokes—reverse sweeps, drives through the off side, and slog sweeps—demonstrating the adaptability Pakistan lacked.

The match marked India’s third consecutive T20I win over Pakistan, with Abhishek’s fearless assault on Afridi in the opening over being the standout moment. Pakistan now face a crucial test against hosts UAE on September 17 in Dubai, where victory will secure their place in the Super 4 stage.
