Batting maestro Virat Kohli’s ODI plans remain uncertain ahead of India’s upcoming white-ball tour of Australia, with three ODIs and five T20Is scheduled from October 19 to November 8. Reports suggest that India’s chief selector Ajit Agarkar recently reached out to Kohli to understand his intentions, following his retirement from Test cricket earlier this year.

While Kohli is still eligible for ODIs, there has been no clear communication from the former captain, leaving selectors unsure of his participation. According to Revsportz sources, the team management is reportedly pessimistic due to Kohli’s silence. Earlier, there were talks of both Kohli and Rohit Sharma featuring for India A in a one-day series against Australia A in Kanpur.

However, neither player was included in the announced squad. Both Kohli and Rohit have retired from Tests and T20Is and have not played competitive cricket since IPL 2025. Their last international appearance was in the Champions Trophy final in March.

Ahead of the ongoing Asia Cup in the UAE, the BCCI conducted fitness tests for all contracted players. Rohit completed his assessment at the COE in Bengaluru, while Kohli reportedly cleared the test from London, where he currently resides with his family. Both reportedly passed the fitness benchmarks.

Meanwhile, senior India batter Shreyas Iyer has also opted for a break from red-ball cricket. Iyer was initially named to lead India A in the second unofficial Test against Australia A in Lucknow but pulled out, citing the physical demands of first-class cricket. In the first unofficial Test, he scored 8 and 13, before deciding that his body needs rest to manage workload and avoid injury.
