Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav is under the scanner after another poor outing in the Asia Cup 2025 Super-4 stage, where his form with the bat has dipped drastically. The skipper, once hailed as the pillar of India’s middle order, has now faced consecutive failures and is also being held responsible for the unfortunate run-out of in-form opener Abhishek Sharma against Bangladesh. India took on Bangladesh in a crucial Super-4 clash, aiming to seal a berth in the Asia Cup final.

Despite being favourites in the tournament, much of the spotlight has shifted to Suryakumar’s personal struggles. Since taking over as captain, the Mumbai Indians star has enjoyed success in bilateral series but is yet to prove himself in a multi-nation event. Suryakumar began the campaign strongly, scoring 7* and 47* in India’s group-stage wins over UAE and Pakistan. However, his decision to not bat against Oman raised eyebrows and seemed to mark the start of a downward slide.

In the Super-4 stage, his returns have been disappointing — dismissed for a duck against Pakistan and managing just 5 runs against Bangladesh. Meanwhile, Bangladesh, despite losing their skipper to injury, showed resilience by making key changes. The standout performer was Rishad Hossain, the young leg-spinner who showcased his all-round potential. Known more for his batting exploits, Rishad turned the game with the ball, removing both Shubman Gill and Shivam Dube. His brilliance didn’t end there — a sharp fielding effort at point led to Abhishek Sharma’s run-out, a dismissal that sparked heavy criticism of Suryakumar for his misjudged call.

Abhishek, who had already lit up the innings with a sparkling 75 off 37 balls featuring six fours and five sixes, looked set for a third international T20 hundred. His dismissal not only halted India’s momentum but also left fans frustrated, with many squarely blaming the captain.
