Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan have both faced disciplinary action from the International Cricket Council (ICC) following their controversial on-field behaviour during the Asia Cup 2025 Super Four clash between India and Pakistan in Dubai. According to a PTI report, Haris Rauf has been fined 30 per cent of his match fees for aggressive gestures and abusive behaviour during the high-voltage encounter.

The Pakistan pacer was seen making a plane-crashing motion along with a “6-0” hand gesture, which many interpreted as a provocative reference to the Pakistan Army’s unverified claims of downing six Indian fighter jets during recent military tensions following Operation Sindoor. The ICC, after reviewing footage and hearing Rauf’s explanation, decided to penalise him for breaching the code of conduct.

Meanwhile, opener Sahibzada Farhan, who celebrated his half-century with a gunshot gesture, has been let off with a formal warning. The celebration drew sharp criticism on social media, with many calling it insensitive in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack earlier this year. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) even lodged an official complaint with the ICC, citing the provocative nature of the act.

Defending himself during the hearing, Farhan clarified that his celebration was not politically motivated. He explained that such gestures are part of traditional cultural expressions in his ethnic Pakhtun community and are often used during moments of joy. Farhan also referenced past cricketers, including MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli, who have occasionally used symbolic celebrations on the field.
