Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav’s lean run with the bat has become one of the major talking points in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025. After yet another disappointing dismissal against Sri Lanka in India’s final Super Four match, fans took to social media to express frustration over his struggles since taking up the captaincy role.

India, led by Suryakumar, had already sealed a place in the final by defeating Pakistan and Bangladesh earlier in the tournament. Yet, the skipper’s poor form has overshadowed the team’s progress. Many critics believe that the additional responsibility of leadership, after Rohit Sharma’s retirement, may have impacted his natural free-flowing game.
Suryakumar started the campaign positively with an unbeaten 47* against Pakistan, but his form dipped drastically afterwards. In his next three outings, he managed only 17 runs—registering a duck against Pakistan, a scratchy 5 against Bangladesh, and a 12-run knock against Sri Lanka where he was trapped lbw by Wanindu Hasaranga.

With just 71 runs from five innings, questions are being raised about both his batting form and his preferred No. 3 position, which places him ahead of Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma in the order. However, while SKY struggles, Abhishek Sharma has emerged as India’s biggest positive. The young opener continued his purple patch by smashing a third consecutive half-century, reaching the milestone in fewer than 25 balls once again.
With this feat, Abhishek has equalled Rohit Sharma’s record for the most 50+ scores in under 25 deliveries and now sits just behind Suryakumar Yadav, who tops the list with seven such knocks. In doing so, Abhishek has even surpassed his mentor Yuvraj Singh, underlining his explosive potential at the top of the order.

Adding further depth to India’s batting effort against Sri Lanka was Sanju Samson, who made a brisk 39 off 23 balls after being slotted at No. 5. His fluent stroke play and 170 strike rate gave India crucial momentum before Dasun Shanaka’s bowling change undid him.
As India gears up for another high-stakes final against Pakistan, the spotlight will remain on Suryakumar’s ability to rediscover his rhythm, while Abhishek Sharma continues to shine as India’s new powerplay enforcer.

Captaincy is the culprint. No idea how he is No.3 when we have Samson who should take that position. Surya is a set player for us at No.4
