India’s domination in women’s cricket continued with an emphatic 88-run win over Pakistan in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 on Sunday in Colombo. The victory not only extended India’s unbeaten streak against their arch-rivals to 12 consecutive ODIs but also placed them firmly at the top of the group table with four points.

However, despite the convincing performance, former India captain and cricket analyst Anjum Chopra urged the team to remain grounded, warning that the real tests are yet to come. Following the match, Chopra praised India’s all-round display but cautioned that the team must not get carried away by the result. She highlighted that the win, though comprehensive, shouldn’t overshadow areas that still need fine-tuning.

“India has won, that’s why everything is very rosy and very nice. But I heard Harmanpreet in the post-match as well, where she said that India could have done a lot better. When they return, they’ll assess conditions better,” Aakash Chopra said on the broadcast, backing the captain’s call for self-reflection and continuous improvement.

While India’s victories over Pakistan and Sri Lanka have looked comfortable on paper, both matches exposed minor chinks in the armour. Batting consistency remains a key concern — with Smriti Mandhana struggling for form, the middle order has been forced to absorb pressure and rebuild in tricky phases. The team’s vulnerability against spin and tendency to lose wickets in clusters could pose problems against stronger bowling units.

Fielding, too, has been a worry. India dropped four catches across their first two games — mistakes that didn’t cost them dearly against weaker sides but could prove decisive against world-class opponents like Australia, South Africa, and New Zealand. Chopra emphasised that while the Indian bowling attack has been disciplined and effective, the margin for error will shrink dramatically in upcoming contests.

“Let’s not be unaware about the situation. The batters need to be more consistent. Your bowling line-up has supported you well, but against other oppositions, the margin of error will be less,” Aakash Chopra warned.

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur echoed those thoughts, admitting that while India’s momentum is strong, they need to focus on building solid partnerships and tightening their fielding standards before facing tougher challenges ahead.
