Former India U-19 World Cup-winning captain Prithvi Shaw has officially joined Maharashtra for the 2025-26 domestic season, ending his association with Mumbai. Ahead of the Ranji Trophy 2025-26, Shaw is using a warm-up match against his former side to fine-tune his form, and he made a spectacular statement on Day 1 by scoring a brilliant century.

The 25-year-old right-handed opener needed 140 balls to reach his three-figure mark, completing the milestone with a single on the first ball of the sixth over bowled by Mumbai’s new Ranji captain, Shardul Thakur. Shaw opened the innings alongside left-handed all-rounder Arshin Kulkarni, and the duo forged a commanding 305-run partnership for the first wicket.
Kulkarni played a dominant innings, scoring 186 off 140 balls, before falling to Shams Mulani in the 50th over, caught by Musheer Khan while attempting a big shot down the ground. At that stage, Shaw was unbeaten on 116 runs from 159 balls, continuing to anchor the innings.

Shaw’s first-class career spans 58 matches, amassing 4,456 runs, including 13 centuries and 18 fifties. His highest score remains a remarkable 379 for Mumbai during the 2022-23 Ranji Trophy season.

Prithvi Shaw debuted in first-class cricket for Mumbai against Tamil Nadu in Rajkot on January 1, 2017, where he scored 120 in the second innings. He has also represented India in five Test matches, making a memorable red-ball debut against the West Indies in Rajkot on October 4, 2018, scoring 134 in the first innings under Virat Kohli’s captaincy.
Maharashtra will officially begin their Ranji Trophy 2025-26 campaign on October 15 against Kerala, followed by a clash with Chandigarh from October 25 to 28 in the Elite Group B.

The team’s remaining six matches in the group are scheduled against Saurashtra, Karnataka, Punjab, Goa, and Madhya Pradesh, allowing Shaw to make a significant impact in his new home side.
