Mohammed Siraj continues to be India’s pace spearhead in red-ball cricket, making headlines once again with a remarkable rise in the ICC Test Rankings. After his match-winning performance in the first Test against the West Indies in Ahmedabad, the Hyderabad-born pacer jumped three spots to reach a career-best No. 12 in the latest ICC Test Bowling Rankings, updated on Wednesday, October 8.

His fiery spells — 4 for 40 and 3 for 31 — not only powered India to a thumping innings-and-140-run victory but also pushed him past the 700-point mark for the first time in his career. Mohammed Siraj’s consistency and aggression have been key to India’s recent dominance in Test cricket.

Carrying forward his rhythm from the England tour earlier this year, where he picked up 23 wickets in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, Siraj once again showcased why he’s regarded as India’s next big fast-bowling leader. His ability to extract movement off the pitch and maintain relentless intensity has made him a force, even in home conditions. Interestingly, he outbowled Jasprit Bumrah in Ahmedabad — a rare sight — although Bumrah continues to sit comfortably at the top of the bowling charts with 885 rating points.

The upcoming second Test in New Delhi, starting October 10, presents Siraj with another opportunity to break into the top 10 and continue his pursuit of the world’s elite pacers like Rabada, Cummins, and Hazlewood.

Meanwhile, Yashasvi Jaiswal endured a rare slip in form, dropping from No. 5 to No. 7 in the ICC Test Batting Rankings after a quiet outing in Ahmedabad. However, considering his stellar form in recent months, it’s likely only a temporary blip for the young left-hander.

All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja also made notable strides in the rankings. His unbeaten 104 against the West Indies lifted him to a career-best No. 25 among Test batters, while his four wickets in the second innings further solidified his position as the No. 1 Test all-rounder, now 125 points clear of Mehidy Hasan of Bangladesh. Jadeja’s rise has been steady, having earlier peaked at 29th in July following an impressive series in England.

Additionally, K.L. Rahul climbed four spots to No. 35, and young wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel jumped an impressive 20 places to 65th after scoring his maiden Test century.

With Siraj’s surge, Jadeja’s brilliance, and India’s dominant victory, the latest ICC rankings reaffirm India’s strength and depth in Test cricket — a combination of experience, flair, and relentless hunger for success.
