Australia’s injury concerns continue to mount ahead of their three-match ODI series against India, with wicketkeeper Josh Inglis and leg-spinner Adam Zampa set to miss the first game. The Aussies are already without Pat Cummins, Glenn Maxwell, and Cameron Green, leaving their squad significantly depleted before the high-profile contest.

Josh Inglis, who missed the New Zealand T20I series due to a calf strain, has failed to recover in time and is expected to miss at least the first two ODIs. His absence adds to Australia’s selection headache, particularly behind the stumps. Zampa, meanwhile, will miss the opening ODI due to personal family reasons but is likely to return later in the series.
Inglis’ injury means Australia are without their two first-choice wicketkeepers. Regular gloveman Alex Carey is currently featuring in the Sheffield Shield to prepare for the upcoming Ashes and will join the ODI squad late. As a result, Josh Philippe, the aggressive right-handed wicketkeeper-batter, has been drafted into the side.

Josh Philippe, who was part of Australia’s T20I series against New Zealand as Maxwell’s replacement, did not get a game there but is now expected to feature in the ODIs. This will be Philippe’s first ODI appearance since 2021.
Spinner Adam Zampa will also miss the match for family reasons.

In his brief 50-over career so far, he has played three matches, scoring 65 runs, and will be eager to make a strong impression in Indian conditions. His attacking style at the top could provide Australia with much-needed momentum in the powerplay overs.
Australia’s injury list doesn’t stop there. Star all-rounder Cameron Green has been allowed to focus entirely on his red-ball preparation for the Ashes, skipping both the India ODIs and T20Is. Meanwhile, captain Pat Cummins continues to recover from a wrist injury and has confirmed that he is unlikely to return until the second Test of the Ashes series.

With multiple key players sidelined, the series presents a major challenge for Australia’s depth and bench strength. However, it also offers opportunities for young players like Philippe to step up and make their mark against one of the world’s strongest ODI teams.
