India all-rounder Hardik Pandya is set to undergo a detailed assessment of his left quadricep injury, which he sustained during last month’s Asia Cup in the UAE. The 31-year-old suffered the setback in India’s Super Four clash against Sri Lanka, forcing him to miss the title clash against Pakistan.

According to a report by The Times of India, Pandya will check in at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru today, where medical staff will conduct a thorough examination to decide his rehabilitation plan. Depending on the severity, the India allrounder could be back in action as early as next month if surgery is not required.

India is scheduled to play three ODIs and five T20Is against Australia starting November 19. With Pandya sidelined due to fitness concerns, the selectors have included young all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy in both squads, giving the youngster a significant opportunity to step up in high-pressure conditions.

Meanwhile, the Indian squad is set to depart from New Delhi on Wednesday. The spotlight will also be on veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who are making their competitive return on Australian soil. Both stars have not played international cricket since the ICC Champions Trophy final in March and skipped the IPL 2025 season due to rest and rotation.

India head coach Gautam Gambhir refrained from speculating on the long-term ODI futures of Rohit and Kohli, emphasising the importance of focusing on the present.

“The 50-over World Cup is still two and a half years away. It is crucial to stay present. Obviously, they are quality players. They are coming back, and their experience will be valuable in Australia,” Gambhir told reporters.

He added, “Hopefully those two guys can have a successful tour, and more importantly, as a team, we can have a successful series.” India will be relying on a blend of experience and youth to navigate the challenging tour Down Under, with Pandya’s injury status a key factor in their planning.
