Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi has reportedly ordered a comprehensive review after the Pakistan women’s cricket team endured a disappointing Women’s World Cup campaign, failing to win a single completed match out of four. Despite high hopes and conditions favouring sub-continental teams, Pakistan’s performances fell flat, culminating in a 150-run defeat to South Africa that ended their semifinal hopes.

According to a PTI report, significant management changes could follow this review. The PCB’s women’s wing, currently led by Rafia Haider—a former Lahore deputy commissioner with little cricketing experience—has come under scrutiny for the team’s lack of progress.

Pakistan’s dismal World Cup run saw defeats against Bangladesh, India, Australia, and South Africa, while rain washed out their encounters with New Zealand and England. The abandoned match against England, in particular, felt like a missed opportunity.

With the 2017 World Cup winners under pressure, Pakistan had a realistic chance of registering their first win before rain in Colombo denied them any chance of redemption. Their final group-stage fixture is now set against Sri Lanka on October 24, a game that could serve as a test of pride and resilience for the struggling side.

Former captain Javeria Khan didn’t mince words, expressing disappointment at the team’s underwhelming batting displays. “The batters never got going. Although our bowlers put Australia, India, and England under pressure at times, they couldn’t finish the job. The loss to Bangladesh early on really shook their confidence,” she said.

Former fast bowler and ex-coach Kabir Khan echoed similar concerns, calling for urgent investment in Pakistan’s domestic women’s cricket structure.

“We’re not discovering fresh talent because our domestic system isn’t strong enough. Other nations are ahead because they’ve built their base from the junior level. Pakistan’s girls want to play professionally, but they need proper opportunities to grow,” Kabir remarked.
