Australia have announced a revamped T20I squad for their upcoming five-match series against India, scheduled from October 29 to November 8. The biggest headline is the return of Glenn Maxwell, who is set to make his comeback to competitive cricket after recovering from a fractured wrist sustained in September 2024. The dynamic all-rounder, who retired from ODIs earlier this year following Australia’s World Cup triumph, will feature in the final three T20Is of the series.

Maxwell’s return comes as a timely boost for the Australians as they continue preparations for the 2025 T20 World Cup, to be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka. The 35-year-old sustained his injury during a net session before the T20I series in New Zealand earlier this year. His experience and finishing prowess are expected to provide the middle order with much-needed depth and balance.
Australia have opted for a rotational approach to manage player workload ahead of the packed international schedule. Senior pacers Josh Hazlewood and Sean Abbott will feature only in the early part of the series. Hazlewood will play the first two games, while Abbott will be available for the first three before both transition to red-ball preparations for the upcoming Ashes series, starting November 21.

To fill the void, the selectors have introduced 20-year-old pacer Mahli Beardman for the final three matches. Beardman, who shone in the U19 World Cup with 10 wickets in six games, could make his international debut during the series. Additionally, Ben Dwarshuis joins for the last two T20Is to strengthen the pace attack.

Wicketkeeper-batter Josh Philippe has been added for all five games as a backup to Josh Inglis, who will continue as the first-choice gloveman. Philippe, who scored a brisk 37 in the first ODI against India, will look to make an impact if given a chance.
Australia, already leading the ODI series 2-0 heading into the Sydney finale, will look to carry their momentum into the T20Is. The upcoming series promises to be a high-octane clash, with both teams eager to test combinations ahead of the global showpiece next year.
