Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma seemed to have come to terms with the fact that India’s emphatic nine-wicket win over Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Saturday, October 25, was their final international outing on Australian soil. The veteran duo, who led India to a dominant chase of 237, shared a heartfelt moment in their joint post-match interview, reflecting on their long-standing love affair with Australian cricket grounds and the memories they’ve created over the years.

After their unbeaten 168-run partnership sealed the win and prevented a whitewash, both stars took time to thank the Australian fans. Virat Kohli, ever gracious, acknowledged the unwavering support he and the team have always received down under.

“We want to say thank you as well. We love coming to this country and playing in front of such big crowds. We’ve played some of our best cricket here. Thank you for welcoming us so warmly — we’ve never felt short of support,” he said, drawing applause from the crowd and broadcasters alike.

Rohit Sharma, who began his journey in Australia back in 2008, got emotional while looking back at his cricketing memories.

“I’ve always loved coming here. I’ve enjoyed every bit of playing cricket in Australia — fond memories of 2008 and a nice way to finish with that knock and this win. I don’t know if we’ll be coming back again, but it’s been fun — full of good memories, bad memories, but all worth it,” Rohit Sharma remarked with a smile.

The two legends fittingly finished the tour in style — Rohit unbeaten on 121* and Kohli on 74*, guiding India home with ease. Their partnership not only delivered a victory but symbolised an era of Indian dominance built on their shoulders.

Kohli now has 3690 runs in 82 innings across formats in Australia — the most by any Indian batter — while Rohit ends with 2266 runs in 65 innings. With no ODIs scheduled in Australia in the near future, this could well mark the end of an era, as the two icons gear up for one last shot at glory in the 2027 World Cup.
