India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has shared a reassuring update on Shreyas Iyer’s health, following the middle-order batter’s unfortunate spleen injury sustained during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney. The incident occurred when Iyer took a brilliant catch to dismiss Alex Carey but landed awkwardly on his left side, forcing him to leave the field. He was soon rushed to a Sydney hospital, where scans confirmed a laceration to the spleen. Fortunately, the cricketer is now stable and has been discharged from the ICU.

Iyer’s condition had initially raised serious concern after reports revealed a sudden drop in his vitals. However, thanks to the prompt intervention of the BCCI medical team and Australian specialists, his situation has since improved. Addressing reporters ahead of the first T20I against Australia in Canberra, Suryakumar provided a positive health update on his teammate.

“When I got to know about his injury, I called our physio Kamlesh Jain for an update. Iyer has been replying on phone now, which means he is stable. Doctors are there with him, and he’s speaking with people too, so it’s looking good. He will be monitored for the next few days,” Suryakumar Yadav said.
