Mohammed Shami reminded the cricketing world of his class once again, delivering a vintage spell at Eden Gardens to guide Bengal to a dominant 141-run victory over Gujarat in their Ranji Trophy Elite Group C clash. The 35-year-old pacer claimed a sensational five-wicket haul (10-0-38-5) in the second innings, dismantling Gujarat’s batting lineup and showcasing that age is no barrier when skill, rhythm, and passion remain intact.

Chasing 327, Gujarat folded for just 185 as Shami’s relentless pace and movement proved too much to handle. Following the win, Bengal head coach Laxmi Ratan Shukla heaped praise on the senior pacer, saying that Shami’s dedication and fitness levels remain unmatched.
“The world has already seen what Mohammed Shami is capable of. His run-up and rhythm haven’t changed even after taking 500 wickets. That’s his greatness. He doesn’t need anyone’s certificate. He’s fit from every angle and will definitely make a comeback to the Indian team,” Laxmi Ratan Shukla told Sportstar.

Shami, who last represented India during the 2023 World Test Championship final against Australia, expressed his relief and happiness after returning strongly from a career-threatening injury sustained during the 2023 World Cup.

“The time of that injury still haunts me sometimes. It was painful, and rehab wasn’t easy. But now, I feel healthier than ever. I still have a lot of cricket left in me. After surgery, I thought it might be over—but this comeback gives me immense satisfaction,” Mohammed Shami said.
Having already picked up seven wickets in Bengal’s first match of the season against Uttarakhand, Shami’s consistency has been remarkable. The veteran pacer believes domestic cricket is the perfect platform to rebuild confidence and rhythm post-injury.
