India’s star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant looks “fitter and stronger” as he gears up to lead India A in the upcoming two-match four-day series against South Africa A, revealed vice-captain Sai Sudharsan on Wednesday. Pant, who has been out of action since suffering a foot injury in England in July, is set to make his much-awaited return to competitive cricket.

The 28-year-old’s immediate goal is to use the series as preparation for a potential comeback to the senior Indian Test team later this year. Speaking after India A’s training session, Sai Sudharsan was full of praise for Pant’s physical transformation and mental sharpness.

“Rishabh looks fantastic, actually, maybe even fitter. He’s had time to build strength and put in focused work on his recovery. He looks more fit, strong, and just as courageous as always,” said the Tamil Nadu batter, who has been working closely with Pant in the nets.

Sai Sudharsan added that Pant’s trademark energy and enthusiasm have already lifted the team’s morale. “The message from Pant is very clear. In our first huddle, he told everyone that this is a great opportunity to get back the red-ball rhythm. But he also emphasized that we’re here to win, and that’s the main thing,” he noted.
India A’s two matches against South Africa A serve as a crucial preparation phase before the senior side’s two-match Test series against the Proteas later this month. Sai Sudharsan highlighted that these games provide valuable exposure for young players aiming to break into the national setup.
