Jemimah Rodrigues scripted one of the most iconic moments in Indian women’s cricket history with her match-winning century against Australia in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 semi-final. The 25-year-old Mumbai batter produced a gem of an innings, scoring an unbeaten 127 off 134 balls — her third ODI hundred and first in a World Cup — guiding India to a stunning five-wicket victory over the seven-time champions.

Her knock, laced with 14 boundaries, powered India to their biggest-ever chase in women’s ODI history at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Among the many admirers of Jemimah’s brilliance was star Indian batter Virat Kohli, who took to social media to salute her “resilience, belief, and passion.”

“What a victory by our team over a mighty opponent like Australia. A great chase by the girls and a standout performance by Jemimah in a big game. A true display of resilience, belief, and passion. Well done, Team India,” Virat Kohli wrote on X, praising the historic performance that ended Australia’s 15-match unbeaten streak in World Cups.

Jemimah Rodrigues’ innings was built around a crucial 167-run partnership with captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who scored a valiant 89 off 88 balls. However, when Harmanpreet was dismissed in the 36th over, the pressure shifted entirely onto Jemimah. Instead of faltering, she found renewed focus.

“I was telling Harry di (Harmanpreet) that we both have to finish it. When she got out, it was almost like a blessing in disguise for me because I regained focus. I told myself — she’s out, now I’ll score for her,” Jemimah Rodrigues said after the match.

She also revealed that India’s belief in their ability to chase at the DY Patil Stadium kept them calm. “We knew that any total was chaseable here. Australia were 30 runs short with the start they had. My mindset was simple — stay at the crease, and the runs will come,” she said.

Jemimah Rodrigues concluded by emphasising India’s fearless approach, saying, “It didn’t matter who we were playing. For us, it was about winning the moment, not the opposition.” Her performance not only sealed India’s spot in the World Cup final but also showcased the maturity and temperament of a player ready to lead the next generation of Indian cricket.
