BCCI Confirms Shreyas Iyer Discharged From Sydney Hospital After Spleen Injury

In a welcome development for Indian cricket fans, star batter Shreyas Iyer has been discharged from a hospital in Sydney following his recovery from a serious abdominal injury. The BCCI released an official statement on Saturday confirming that Iyer is “stable” and “recovering well,” marking a positive step in his road to full fitness.

“He [Shreyas Iyer] is now stable and recovering well. The BCCI Medical Team, along with specialists in Sydney and India, are pleased with his recovery, and he has been discharged from the hospital today,” read the official BCCI statement.

Iyer suffered a blunt abdominal injury while fielding during the third ODI against Australia on October 25, 2025, which resulted in a spleen laceration and internal bleeding.

The injury, sustained while taking a diving catch to dismiss Alex Carey, was initially believed to be a rib issue before scans revealed the true extent of the damage. A minor procedure was performed to control the bleeding, and Iyer has since shown significant improvement.

 

The Board of Control for Cricket in India also extended its gratitude to Dr Koroush Haghighi and his team in Sydney, along with Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala in India, for providing seamless medical care during Iyer’s treatment. “The BCCI extends its heartfelt gratitude to Dr Koroush Haghighi and his team in Sydney, along with Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala in India, for ensuring Shreyas received the best treatment for his injury,” the statement added.

As per the latest update, Iyer will continue to stay in Sydney for follow-up consultations before returning to India once he receives medical clearance to travel. His steady recovery comes as a huge relief for Team India ahead of a busy international calendar.
