Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to meet the Indian women’s cricket team soon after their historic triumph at the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, where Harmanpreet Kaur and her team lifted India’s first-ever ICC title. The Women in Blue scripted history at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, defeating South Africa by 52 runs in a thrilling final that has ignited celebrations across the nation.

Shortly after the win, PM Narendra Modi took to X to congratulate the team, lauding their grit, teamwork, and composure under pressure. “A spectacular win by the Indian team in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 Finals. Their performance was marked by great skill and confidence. The team showed exceptional teamwork and tenacity throughout the tournament. This historic win will motivate future champions to take up sports,” he posted.

The following day, while addressing the Emerging Science, Technology and Innovation Conclave (ESTIC) 2025, PM Narendra Modi once again acknowledged the team’s achievement before beginning his speech.

“This event is related to science, but first, I want to talk about India’s spectacular victory in cricket. All of India is overjoyed. India’s road to glory was filled with unforgettable moments. The team stunned defending champions Australia in the semifinal by chasing down the highest total in women’s ODI history before dominating South Africa in the final.

Reflecting on the victory, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur said, “This is the start. We wanted to break the barrier and make winning a habit. This is not the end — just the beginning.”

Following the win, the BCCI announced a ₹51 crore cash reward to honour the champions for their remarkable achievement.
