A viral video has taken the internet by storm, showing Indian women’s cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur sipping from a cup before raising a toast to the ICC Women’s World Cup trophy. The gesture, subtle yet symbolic, reminded many fans of Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, who became a national hero after being captured by Pakistani forces during the 2019 Balakot conflict.

The timing of Harmanpreet’s move added even more intrigue. It came shortly after India’s men’s team defeated Pakistan in the Asia Cup final, a tournament shrouded in controversy, as India has yet to receive the trophy. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) refused to accept the trophy from PCB chief and ACC president Mohsin Naqvi during the presentation ceremony.

In an unexpected turn, an official quietly removed the trophy from the stage, leaving fans and players puzzled. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia later confirmed that India is yet to receive the Asia Cup trophy and warned that if the issue isn’t resolved soon, it will be raised at the ICC meeting on November 4.

While that controversy unfolded, Indian players found their own way to celebrate their achievements. Suryakumar Yadav humorously recreated Rohit Sharma’s slow walk from the 2024 T20 World Cup final, lifting an imaginary trophy as teammates cheered him on. Meanwhile, Harmanpreet Kaur paid tribute to MS Dhoni’s iconic 2011 World Cup moment, posing with the Women’s World Cup trophy against the majestic Gateway of India — a moment that perfectly captured the nation’s pride.
