A special victory calls for a special celebration — and India women’s head coach Amol Muzumdar found the perfect way to mark history. Moments after India clinched their maiden ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 title, Muzumdar walked onto the DY Patil Stadium turf and planted the Indian tricolour, mirroring Rohit Sharma’s iconic gesture from the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup final in Barbados.

Rohit’s symbolic act of pride, where he planted the flag after India’s thrilling win over South Africa, had become one of Indian cricket’s most memorable moments. A year later, Muzumdar paid homage to that spirit — celebrating a victory that was both emotionally and monumentally significant.
As the Women in Blue, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, lifted the trophy after defeating South Africa by 52 runs, social media erupted with comparisons between Muzumdar and Shah Rukh Khan’s Kabir Khan from Chak De! India. Fans lauded the coach’s passion, leadership, and emotional connection with the team, calling the moment “straight out of a Bollywood script.”

For Muzumdar, the triumph was deeply personal. A prolific batter in Indian domestic cricket during the 1990s, he never got the chance to represent India internationally, overshadowed by the likes of Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, and Sourav Ganguly. Yet, destiny had other plans — he finally scripted his name in India’s cricketing folklore, not with the bat, but from the dugout.

“It hasn’t sunk in yet,” Amol Muzumdar said after the final. “After that last catch by Harman, the next five minutes were a blur. I just looked up, unable to believe it had actually happened.”
With this win, Muzumdar joins an elite club of Indian coaches — Gary Kirsten (2011) and Rahul Dravid (2024) — who have guided India to World Cup glory.

Reflecting on his two-year journey with the team, Amol Muzumdar added, “This group is special. They back each other through everything. You’ll never see anyone alone — that unity is what made us champions.”
India’s triumph was more than just a sporting achievement — it was a defining cultural moment, one that cemented the women’s team’s place in the nation’s cricketing history.
