India head coach Amol Muzumdar shared a heartwarming moment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Indian women’s cricket team’s celebratory visit, revealing how his support staff had long wished for this meeting. Muzumdar recalled that earlier this year, while touring England, the men’s and women’s teams had the opportunity to meet King Charles. But a strict protocol allowed only 20 members to attend, leaving several support staff members disappointed.

Amol Muzumdar told PM Narendra Modi that despite missing out on the royal engagement, his staff had a very different wish in mind. “They said, ‘We don’t want a photograph with King Charles. We want a photograph with PM Modi on November 4 or 5 after winning the World Cup.’ And today, that day has arrived,” he told the Prime Minister proudly.
Their dream materialised after India created history under Muzumdar’s guidance, defeating South Africa in a commanding final to lift their maiden ICC Women’s World Cup title. On Wednesday, the newly crowned champions were hosted at the Prime Minister’s residence in New Delhi, marking an emotional and memorable celebration.

During the interaction, PM Modi revisited the team’s challenging World Cup journey, recalling how the players were heavily trolled on social media following early defeats. He applauded their resilience, mental strength and ability to rise under pressure to script one of Indian cricket’s most incredible comebacks.

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur also reflected on their earlier visit to PM Narendra Modi years ago. “We came without a trophy then,” she said, expressing pride at returning as world champions and hoping for many more such moments in future.
Vice-captain Smriti Mandhana added that the Prime Minister’s encouraging words had played a significant role in keeping the side motivated throughout the campaign.
