Former New Zealand fast bowler Trent Boult, one of the most respected left-arm quicks of this generation, recently revealed his “dream six” team — and his picks have sparked plenty of conversation among fans. Despite long-time associations with both Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah, Boult surprised many by leaving out the two Indian superstars.

Instead, he chose Rohit Sharma and Mohammed Shami as the two Indians in his fantasy lineup. Boult has shared the Mumbai Indians dressing room with Bumrah for three seasons (2020, 2021 and 2025) and has faced Kohli countless times across formats.

Yet, when it came to naming his dream combination, he leaned toward players who left a distinct personal impression on him. In a video shared by MI Cape Town, Boult explained that Rohit Sharma has always been one of his favourite batters.

“Rohit Sharma. He is one of my favourite batsmen ever,” Trent Boult said. “Partnered with Chris Gayle. Destructive. Trent Boult would be the third batter. Shane Warne. Mohammed Shami — beautiful seam presentation. Shaheen Shah Afridi.”

The Rohit-Boult bond is no secret. Boult thrived under Rohit’s leadership during Mumbai Indians’ title-winning IPL 2020 campaign, delivering crucial early wickets throughout the season. For Boult, Rohit’s effortless timing, calmness under pressure and unmatched record in franchise cricket make him an automatic choice.

Rohit’s credentials speak for themselves. Since making his IPL debut in 2008, the right-hander has featured in 272 matches for Deccan Chargers and Mumbai Indians, scoring 7046 runs — the second-most in IPL history behind Virat Kohli. His tally includes two centuries and 47 half-centuries. Beyond batting, Rohit’s legacy as captain stands tall: five IPL trophies (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020), making him the joint-most successful player in league history with six titles overall.

As for Shami, Boult praised his impeccable seam position and relentless accuracy — traits that have made the Indian pacer one of world cricket’s most feared bowlers across formats. Boult’s dream six might not mirror popular opinion, but it certainly reflects admiration, respect, and the experiences he has gathered across leagues and continents.
