Star Indian middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer continues his road to recovery after suffering a serious injury during the third ODI against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground on October 25. The injury, sustained while fielding, led to the 30-year-old being admitted to a Sydney hospital, where he reportedly spent a couple of days in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). After nearly a week under medical supervision, Iyer is now steadily recovering, and on Monday (November 10), he shared a hopeful health update through his Instagram Stories.

Iyer posted a picture of himself relaxing at a beach and wrote, “The sun’s been great therapy. Grateful for all the love and care,” giving fans a much-needed sigh of relief after the worrying developments.
On November 1, the BCCI confirmed the nature of the injury, revealing that Iyer suffered a blunt abdominal trauma that resulted in a spleen laceration with internal bleeding. Thanks to timely intervention, the bleeding was controlled through a minor procedure.

The board added that Iyer is stable and responding well to treatment. The BCCI medical team, along with specialists in Sydney and India, are satisfied with his recovery so far. Iyer has been discharged but will remain in Sydney for follow-up checks before being cleared to fly back to India.
Before the unfortunate injury, Iyer looked in solid touch, especially with his half-century in the second ODI at the Adelaide Oval on November 23. However, given the seriousness of his condition, he is expected to be out of competitive cricket for an extended period. He was left out of the India A squad for the upcoming one-day series against South Africa A, raising doubts about his availability for the ODI series between India and South Africa.

India will host South Africa for three ODIs in Ranchi, Raipur, and Visakhapatnam on November 30, December 3, and December 6. The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee is set to meet soon to finalise the squad, but Iyer’s participation remains uncertain as he continues his recovery.
