Promising young wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel has downplayed any notion of rivalry with senior gloveman Rishabh Pant, saying that both share a common goal — helping Team India succeed in Test cricket. With India gearing up for the two-match Test series against South Africa, Jurel’s calm perspective reflects a mature and team-first mindset.

Jurel, who impressed everyone with his performances in India’s 2-0 Test series win over the West Indies last month, scored his maiden Test century in Ahmedabad and showcased remarkable composure behind the stumps. However, with Pant returning to the squad after recovering from a foot fracture, team management faces an interesting selection dilemma — whether both wicketkeepers can feature in the same playing XI.

“There is no competition between me and Rishabh bhai. Both of us are playing for India, and the motive is the same — to make India win. If he plays, I am happy; if I play, I am happy. If we play together, even better. The only focus is on the team,” Dhruv Jurel said during an interview with JioStar.

Reflecting on his journey, Dhruv Jurel recalled his Test debut against England in February 2024, calling it a dream come true. “Playing Test cricket was always my childhood dream. Getting that first cap felt surreal — like I was on cloud seven. It’s a feeling I will never forget,” he shared.

Looking ahead to the upcoming series against World Test Championship winners South Africa, Dhurv  Jurel acknowledged the challenge that awaits.

“It’s going to be an exciting battle. Both sides have world-class pace attacks — whether it’s Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen from their side or Jasprit Bumrah from ours, the quality is exceptional. To win, you must rise against the best, and I’m looking forward to that challenge,” he said.
