A video featuring Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi has gone viral after he was seen personally addressing Sri Lankan players who were unsettled by the recent Islamabad blast and were considering returning home during the ongoing three-match ODI series. The interaction, held behind closed doors, was aimed at calming nerves, restoring confidence, and assuring both teams of the PCB’s unwavering commitment to security.

The situation escalated on Tuesday when a suicide blast in Islamabad claimed 12 lives, just hours before the first ODI between Pakistan and Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi. The timing of the tragic incident triggered understandable panic within the Sri Lankan camp, reviving memories of the 2009 Lahore attack when gunmen targeted the Sri Lankan team bus, injuring six players and killing several security personnel.

That traumatic history resurfaced quickly, with reports suggesting that eight Sri Lankan players were strongly inclined to fly back home. However, Sri Lanka Cricket intervened swiftly, instructing all players, support staff, and management to remain in Pakistan and complete the tour.

This decision came after detailed discussions with the PCB, which immediately enhanced security measures at the hotel, training facilities, and during team travel. Both boards have since been working in close coordination to ensure safety remains at the highest possible level.

In the viral clip, Naqvi can be seen reassuring both squads, acknowledging the concerns, and expressing gratitude to Sri Lanka for continuing the series despite the unsettling circumstances. His presence was intended to boost morale and reinforce the message that player safety remains the top priority.

Adding to the effort, Pakistan’s military chief also stepped in, coordinating with the interior ministry to provide additional support and ensure the tour could continue smoothly. With upgraded security and continuous oversight, both teams are determined to carry on with the series, hoping cricket will once again bring stability during challenging times.
