Anil Kumble has weighed in on the high-profile trade that sent all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja back to Rajasthan Royals (RR) and brought Sanju Samson to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ahead of the IPL 2026 auction, calling it a “win-win” for all parties involved. The trade was officially confirmed on November 15, with Sam Curran also heading to RR as part of the deal.

Sanju Samson leaves RR after a decade-long association during which he played 149 matches and scored 4027 runs, including two centuries and 23 fifties. He captained the franchise from 2021, becoming a vital figure both on and off the field. Now, with the move to CSK, Samson is poised to take on a new challenge—perhaps even as MS Dhoni’s successor.

“It’s a big move. Chennai Super Kings generally don’t trade their core players, so it’s surprising to see Jadeja leave. But getting Sanju Samson is a huge plus. With Dhoni’s future uncertain, they now have an Indian wicketkeeper-batter who can also take up leadership,” said Anil Kumble on Star Sports.

He further highlighted that with Devon Conway no longer part of CSK’s plans and a need for a top-order Indian batter, Samson fits perfectly. “Ruturaj Gaikwad has done well, but Samson brings a level of experience and versatility that’s invaluable. He’s a smart addition at the top and gives Chennai stability and leadership options.”

For RR, bringing back Jadeja marks a significant boost. They struggled last season with spin options, often fielding two overseas spinners. Jadeja, with his left-arm orthodox spin, middle-order batting, and exceptional fielding, provides the perfect balance.

“Rajasthan needed a seasoned Indian spinner. Jadeja gives them that and much more. His experience, all-round skills, and leadership will lift the team. It’s a smart move for both franchises,” Anil Kumble added.

Jadeja played 186 matches for CSK, claiming 143 wickets and scoring over 2,000 runs. He now returns to where his IPL journey began—with a trophy—ready to add another chapter to his storied career. The trade marks a new beginning for both players and perhaps signals a shift in strategy for both teams as they prepare for IPL 2026 and beyond.
