South Africa’s opener Aiden Markram produced one of the finest moments of the Guwahati Test, pulling off a breathtaking one-handed catch at third slip to dismiss Indian all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy on Day 3 of the second Test. The incredible grab instantly went viral, with fans comparing the Proteas star to “Superman” for his athletic effort.

India resumed Day 2 at 9/0, with Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul looking to build a foundation, but the home side’s top order crumbled in the morning session. The pressure only mounted after lunch, especially when stand-in captain Rishabh Pant threw his wicket away with a rash shot, bringing Nitish Kumar Reddy to the crease much earlier than expected.
From the start, Reddy looked uncomfortable. He almost chopped Simon Harmer onto his stumps and later edged Marco Jansen for a lucky boundary. His downfall came in the 42nd over, when Jansen unleashed a cleverly directed bouncer. Reddy tried to fend it off with a high bat, but the ball brushed the shoulder of his bat and ballooned towards the slips.

The ball initially sailed wide of second slip, but Aiden Markram reacted in a flash. Sprinting across from third slip, he launched into a full-stretched dive to his right and plucked the ball out of thin air with one hand. The timing, athleticism, and sheer instinct behind the catch made it one of the standout moments of the series. South African players erupted in celebration, knowing they had claimed a crucial wicket.
Jansen continued his short-ball assault and soon similarly dismissed Ravindra Jadeja. Jadeja, too, was beaten by extra bounce, and another sharp deflection flew straight to Markram, giving the fielder his second excellent catch of the day.

At Lunch, India were sinking at 174/7, with Washington Sundar and Kuldeep Yadav trying to add as many runs as possible. The hosts still trailed by 331 runs, and their first goal was simply to avoid the follow-on. South Africa’s fielding has been exceptional throughout the day. Earlier, opener Ryan Rickelton took a brilliant catch to dismiss Sai Sudharsan, signalling the Proteas’ intent to dominate every department.
The visitors had begun strongly after Temba Bavuma elected to bat first, ending Day 1 at 247/6. Kuldeep Yadav was India’s standout bowler, picking up four wickets in the innings. Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj claimed two apiece.
