Star Indian batter Virat Kohli delivered a vintage masterclass in Ranchi, celebrating his 52nd ODI century during the series opener against South Africa at the JSCA International Stadium Complex. But the milestone moment took an unexpected turn when an emotional fan invaded the pitch, ran straight towards Kohli, and fell at his feet in admiration. Security quickly intervened as Kohli composed himself and kissed his wedding ring—a signature gesture after reaching yet another milestone.

Kohli authoritatively began his innings, opening his account with a boundary as a thick outside edge raced past third man. From that moment, he looked in complete control. His straight drive off Nandre Burger drew loud applause, and moments later, he launched a stunning lofted six down the ground, signalling that he was in his element.

The right-hander continued to dominate, stepping out to Ottneil Baartman and sending him soaring over long-off for another towering maximum. Kohli soon brought up his 76th ODI fifty in style—off just 48 balls—dispatching another six over deep mid-wicket as the Ranchi crowd erupted.

The highlight of the innings was his brilliant 136-run stand off 109 balls with Rohit Sharma, who himself created history earlier by breaking the world record for the most sixes in ODI cricket. Together, the duo dismantled South Africa’s bowling attack with class and authority.

Kohli reached his century off 102 balls, guiding Marco Jansen delicately past third man for four. It marked his third ODI hundred in Ranchi, adding to his centuries against Sri Lanka and Australia at the same venue.

The Ranchi crowd rose to its feet, giving Kohli a thunderous standing ovation for an innings filled with 11 fours and seven majestic sixes—a performance that reminded the world why he remains one of the greatest batters in the modern era.
