Indian batter Jemimah Rodrigues has opened up about one of the most emotionally draining phases of her career, recalling how the overwhelming attention after her Women’s World Cup semi-final heroics affected her preparations for the final. Her match-winning knock not only brought India within touching distance of a historic title but also thrust her into sudden, intense fame that disrupted her personal space at the worst possible moment.

Rodrigues revealed that immediately after the semi-final, her phone was flooded with calls and WhatsApp messages from unknown numbers, leaving her mentally exhausted. While she was still trying to process the magnitude of India’s dramatic win, the nonstop notifications made it incredibly difficult for her to settle down and focus on the final.

“I don’t know how random people started getting my number. I’m not even over-exaggerating — I had 1,000 WhatsApp messages,” she shared. “A lot had already happened in that game. My emotions were everywhere. Yes, I played a knock, yes we were in the final, but the tournament wasn’t over. We still had a World Cup to win.”

The constant buzzing became so intrusive that Jemimah Rodrigues made a bold decision — she uninstalled WhatsApp entirely. Despite not reading most messages, just knowing her phone was lighting up every few seconds affected her preparation. She informed only a select few family members and friends on how to reach her, creating a much-needed bubble of silence before the title clash.

“Even if I wasn’t reading the messages, the buzzing itself was distracting. I just wanted to prepare for the finals. So till the finals were over, I didn’t install WhatsApp again,” she said.

Rodrigues also pulled back from social media, posting only a short update after the semi-final before going offline again. She stayed disconnected until India’s campaign ended, valuing clarity and mental calm over the rush of attention.

When she finally returned to her digital platforms, she was stunned by the wave of appreciation — countless posts, edits, reels, and fan conversations celebrating her. “It felt surreal. Even now, I’ll be scrolling on Instagram and suddenly a video of mine pops up. It’s crazy how much things changed in just a few days,” she reflected.
