India’s teenage batting prodigy, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, continued to set new benchmarks in his meteoric rise, smashing a breathtaking century in the opening match of the Under-19 Asia Cup against the UAE on Friday, December 12, at the ICC Academy Ground in Dubai. The 14-year-old once again proved why he’s considered one of the most exciting young talents in world cricket, reaching his hundred in just 56 balls and giving India a blistering start after being put in to bat.

The young southpaw showcased a perfect blend of maturity and fearless strokeplay, cracking nine fours and five sixes during his innings. He began cautiously, getting off the mark on his sixth delivery with a boundary against Ali Asgar, before opening up in the bowler’s next over with two towering sixes. From there, Suryavanshi never looked back.

He stormed to a 30-ball half-century with a clean strike off Ahmed Khudadad and looked set for something special. A dropped chance at long-off when he was on 85 only added to UAE’s misery as Vaibhav calmly nudged his way to a 56-ball century—his second Youth ODI ton and his sixth century of 2025 across formats.

Suryavanshi even appeared on course for his maiden Youth ODI double century, but his ambition to scoop Uddish Suri cost him his wicket. He finally departed for a sensational 171 off 95 balls, an innings laced with nine fours and 14 enormous sixes.

His performance is part of a remarkable run that began earlier in the year. The youngster announced himself in domestic cricket with a maiden T20 century in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, smashing an unbeaten 108 off 61 balls against Maharashtra—an innings defined by seven fours and seven sixes on a difficult pitch. He carried that form into the Rising Stars Asia Cup in Doha, where he piled up 239 runs at an average of 59.75 and an astonishing strike rate of 243.87, including a blistering 32-ball hundred against the UAE.

Already a Ranji debutant at just 12, Vaibhav became a household name after a stunning IPL debut season with Rajasthan Royals. His tally of 252 runs at a strike rate of 206.55, highlighted by a 38-ball 101 against Gujarat Titans—the second-fastest century in IPL history—firmly established him as the youngest batting sensation in the league.

With every passing innings, Vaibhav Suryavanshi is proving that Indian cricket’s next big superstar may have already arrived.
