Sunday turned out to be another intense day on the sidelines for Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir, whose frustration with on-field lapses was once again visible during the third T20I of the five-match series between India and South Africa. This time, the spotlight was firmly on left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh, whose error in the field drew an animated reaction from the usually composed coach.

The moment unfolded in the 13th over of South Africa’s innings, with Shivam Dube operating with the ball. Donnovan Ferreira miscued a shot off the bottom of the bat, sending the ball high towards the long-on region. Arshdeep Singh charged in and attempted a sliding catch on his knees, going for it with both hands.

However, the ball slipped through, offering Ferreira a crucial lifeline. Almost instantly, the broadcast cameras panned to Gambhir, who was seen clearly upset, venting his frustration after yet another avoidable on-field mistake.

This wasn’t an isolated incident in the ongoing series. A similar scene played out during the second T20I, when Gambhir was visibly furious after Arshdeep completely lost control of his line and length. That over spiralled into chaos, with Arshdeep bowling seven wides, resulting in a rare 13-ball over. Gambhir’s animated reaction on that occasion also went viral, sparking discussions among fans about discipline and execution at the highest level.

Despite these moments, India remained firmly in control of the third T20I. At the time of writing, South Africa were struggling at 85 for 7 in 16.4 overs, with captain Aiden Markram fighting a lone battle with 42 runs, alongside Anrich Nortje at the crease. The Indian bowling attack applied relentless pressure, never allowing the visitors to build momentum.

Harshit Rana and Varun Chakravarthy led the charge with two wickets apiece, while Arshdeep Singh, Hardik Pandya, and Shivam Dube chipped in with one wicket each. Ironically, despite the dropped catch, Arshdeep has been India’s most economical bowler in the match. The pacer conceded just nine runs in his three overs, maintaining an outstanding economy rate of 3.00. Even more impressively, he has not bowled a single no-ball or wide in this game so far, highlighting a strong comeback in execution despite the lapse in the field.
