Delhi Capitals’ Sneh Rana found herself at the centre of an unwanted piece of Women’s Premier League history on Sunday, January 11, when she conceded 32 runs in a single over — the most expensive ever recorded in the tournament. The moment unfolded during the fourth match of WPL 2026 at the DY Patil Sports Academy, where Gujarat Giants skipper Sophie Devine produced a breathtaking display of power hitting that left both Rana and the DC bowling unit searching for answers.

The carnage came in the final over of the powerplay, a phase that often sets the tone for the entire innings. Rana missed her lengths on the first two deliveries, and Devine, in peak attacking rhythm, capitalised instantly. A powerful flick through the leg side and a crisp cut pierced the field for consecutive boundaries, before the New Zealand star stepped down the track to launch a towering six over long-on.
The momentum was firmly with the batter, and Devine followed it up with another clean, stand-and-deliver maximum that had the Navi Mumbai crowd on its feet.

Sensing blood, Devine went even harder. On the fourth ball, she dropped to one knee and slogged Rana over cow corner, extending the over into a nightmare for the Delhi spinner. Under mounting pressure, Rana lost her control and bowled a full toss on the final delivery, which Devine dispatched with ease to complete a historic 32-run over.
Heartbreak for Sophie Devine 💔
While we all are busy watching Virat Kohli and the Indian team batting, Sophie Devine hammered 95 in just 42 balls in the WPL.
She even smashed 32 runs in one over against Sneh Rana

The previous WPL record for the most expensive over was 28 runs, conceded by Deepti Sharma last season against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Ironically, Sneh Rana was the batter on that occasion, an over that played a key role in boosting her reputation as a genuine all-rounder in Indian cricket.
With Beth Mooney providing calm support at the other end, the Gujarat Giants raced to 80 without loss at the end of the powerplay — the highest total in the first six overs in WPL 2026 and the second-highest overall. Devine continued her assault against DC’s spin attack, smashing three sixes in four balls off Shree Charani in the ninth over to keep the pressure firmly on the fielding side.

Her sensational innings finally ended in the 11th over when Nandani Sharma outfoxed her with a well-disguised slower delivery. Devine miscued the shot high over short fine leg, where Charani completed a safe catch, bringing an end to a stunning 42-ball 95. It was Devine’s second score in the 90s in WPL history, following her 99 for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2023, and it once again underlined her status as one of the most destructive batters in the women’s game.
