India and Kolkata Knight Riders star Rinku Singh has found himself at the centre of a legal controversy after a police complaint was lodged against him on Monday, January 19, at the Sasni Gate police station in Aligarh. The complaint stems from an AI-generated video shared via Rinku’s Facebook account that went viral and triggered strong backlash on social media.

The controversial video shows Rinku Singh hitting a six, followed by AI-generated visuals of Hindu deities wearing sunglasses and driving away in a car, set to an English song. While similar AI-edited videos have become increasingly common online, the massive reach of this particular post sparked outrage among certain religious groups.
Karni Sena district president Sumit Tomar publicly criticised the cricketer, alleging that the video hurt religious sentiments and demanded a public apology from Rinku Singh to Sanatan Dharma. “Making our deities wear glasses and dance to English songs will not be tolerated,” Tomar stated, adding that such depictions were unacceptable.

According to sources, preliminary investigations are underway to determine the origin and authenticity of the video. There is also scrutiny over whether the clip was directly created by Rinku or circulated without full awareness of its implications.

The intent behind the video appeared to be symbolic, with on-screen text reading, “Who brought you success?” followed by, “God brought you success,” suggesting gratitude for divine blessings. However, the modern and stylised portrayal of deities proved controversial, especially among conservative religious leaders.

The incident comes at a crucial time in Rinku Singh’s career. He is currently part of India’s T20I squad for the upcoming series against New Zealand and is also included in the provisional plans for the T20 World Cup 2026. As the investigation continues, the focus remains on clarifying intent while balancing public sentiment and digital responsibility.
