Bangladesh men’s international cricketers were reportedly left frustrated and sidelined after being merely “informed” — rather than consulted — about the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) decision not to travel to India for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The move, which could effectively end Bangladesh’s participation in the marquee event, has sparked serious concern within the dressing room.

According to a detailed report by Cricbuzz, several players walked out of a crucial meeting with government sports advisor Asif Nazrul feeling disappointed and unheard. While the meeting was officially positioned as a forum to take players’ opinions, those present felt the decision had already been finalised before discussions even began.

Many players had hoped their voices might influence the BCB’s stance, but instead felt their presence was symbolic rather than meaningful. Bangladesh T20 captain Litton Das and Test skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto are understood to have spoken in favour of travelling to India and participating in the World Cup.

However, the BCB maintained its position, citing security concerns and referring to previous incidents involving Bangladeshi players in India. Officials reportedly told the squad that potential risks could not be ignored, even though no fresh intelligence had been shared.

“The meeting was not about seeking consent,” a senior cricketer said on condition of anonymity. “We were called to be informed of what had already been decided. Our opinions didn’t really matter, and nothing was taken on board.”

The issue is widely being viewed in Bangladesh as a reflection of the BCB’s close alignment with the national government, especially at a time when diplomatic relations with India are strained. Several players privately believe the decision was a political call rather than a cricketing one.

“They didn’t ask us,” another player was quoted as saying. “Earlier, there was discussion. This time, it was simply conveyed that we are not going. The government’s call had already been made.”

Players were also informed that there had been no direct communication from the BCCI, raising questions within the BCB about logistical clarity. While BCB president Aminul Islam Bulbul attempted to reassure the squad, most players felt the outcome was already sealed.

Meanwhile, the ICC has rejected Bangladesh’s claims of “injustice” and is reportedly preparing Scotland as a replacement should Bangladesh formally withdraw from the tournament.
