Former India wicketkeeper-batter Deep Dasgupta commented on Team India’s bowling combination for the T20 World Cup 2026. The tournament will start on February 7, soon after India’s T20I series against New Zealand as well. Deep Dasgupta felt that India would play two frontline spinners and three pacers, along with Hardik Pandya as well.

“I dont see India going in with three spinners unless it is a turner. It would be three seamers with Hardik and then two spinners. With Kuldeep, we were having a chat and he did mention that there were certain things he was not happy with and working on and then in the second game he bowled beautifully. He looked a little off again in the last game. But I know he is working on something, the kind of experience he has, I think he should be alright. But the question is what games he plays, what kind of pitches will we have where we can play both Kuldeep and Varun,” he said on ‘Backstage with Boria’.

“With him bowling the way he is with the new ball, in the first six, that gives you so much flexibility to use Bumrah. We also dont know what the scene is with Sundar. If he is not available, apart from Axar you don’t have anyone who can give you a couple of overs in the powerplay. But with Hardik bowling the way he is, now you are not forced to bowl Bumrah with the new ball. You can bowl Bumrah the fifth or the sixth. It gives you the flexibility to bowl Bumrah and Varun,” he further added.

However, Deep Dasgupta also applauded Team India for their fearless approach with the bat. He also added that they are currently displaying an even better version of fearless cricket as well.

“It just seems like two teams playing on two very different levels right now. The Indian batting, especially. There is a huge difference. We have seen this team playing fearless cricket, but this is fearless cricket 2.0. I am not saying this based on a couple of innings, but look at the situations. First game, you lose wickets, but you still bat the same way. Second, you are 6/2, and Ishan comes in and scores a 50 off 21. This game you lose a wicket on the first ball and Abhishek does what he does. So there are no conditions applied to this fearlessness. Before this, when India won under Rohit, they were playing fearless and started playing that way under his leadership, and now this particular team has taken that forward,” Deep Dasgupta concluded.
