Ishan Kishan underlined his resurgence in emphatic fashion by smashing his maiden T20I century in the fifth and final match of the India vs New Zealand series at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. Making the most of his comeback to the national side, the left-handed wicketkeeper-batter needed just 42 balls to bring up the landmark, sealing the moment with back-to-back sixes off Mitchell Santner.

It was the kind of high-impact innings that selectors love to see ahead of a global tournament, especially with the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 around the corner. Ishan Kishan walked in early after hometown favourite Sanju Samson fell cheaply for 6, leaving the crowd stunned. The southpaw took a few deliveries to find his rhythm but once he settled in, there was no stopping him.

A boundary off Lockie Ferguson followed by a towering six kickstarted a breathtaking assault that soon had New Zealand’s bowlers under serious pressure. With six fours and ten sixes, Ishan Kishan turned the powerplay and middle overs into a one-man show, dictating terms with fearless strokeplay.

The defining phase of his knock came against the spinners. Ish Sodhi and Mitchell Santner were taken apart as ishan Kishan used his feet brilliantly and targeted the shorter boundaries. He raced to his half-century off just 28 balls, with Sodhi bearing the brunt in one over that disappeared for multiple boundaries.

The momentum only grew when Ishan Kishan stitched together a 137-run partnership with captain Suryakumar Yadav, who complemented the aggression with a fluent 63 off 30 balls. Even after Suryakumar’s dismissal, Kishan kept the tempo high, adding quick runs with Hardik Pandya in another explosive stand.

Kishan’s innings finally ended at 103 off 43 balls, but by then, the damage had been done. Powered by his fireworks, India piled up a mammoth 271/5, their third-highest T20I total, and sent a clear message about their batting firepower heading into the T20 World Cup year.
