Former India fast bowler Ishant Sharma has voiced concern over the uncertainty surrounding the high-voltage India vs Pakistan clash at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, saying the ongoing confusion is unfair to players preparing for the marquee event. The Group A fixture, scheduled for February 15 in Colombo, is under a cloud after the Pakistan government denied permission to its team to face India.

While the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is yet to send official confirmation of a boycott to the International Cricket Council (ICC), the lack of clarity has created a tense atmosphere around one of the most anticipated matches of the tournament. Ishant believes such ambiguity can affect players’ mental preparation, especially for a contest that carries enormous pressure and global attention.

“This isn’t good for the players,” Ishant Sharma said on India Today’s Salaam Cricket. “They should be informed clearly whether this match is happening or not. Players prepare differently for different opponents, and an India–Pakistan game is something every cricketer gears up for mentally. When the whole world is watching, clarity becomes even more important.”

Former India seamer Mohit Sharma echoed similar sentiments, noting that situations like these take the game out of players’ hands. He stressed that cricket should ideally remain insulated from off-field controversies, even though he acknowledged that such matters are often beyond athletes’ control. Mohit added that repeatedly discussing politically sensitive issues only adds to the noise, without offering real solutions for those directly affected — the players.

Amid growing speculation, India captain Suryakumar Yadav has maintained that the team is fully prepared to face Pakistan and will travel to Sri Lanka according to the official schedule. India’s camp has continued its World Cup preparations without altering plans, choosing to focus on on-field readiness rather than external developments.

The ICC has reportedly warned the PCB of serious consequences if Pakistan formally proceeds with a boycott. For now, fans, broadcasters, and players alike remain in limbo, hoping for a swift resolution that allows cricket to take centre stage once again.
