India’s injury and illness concerns at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 continue to grow, with opener Abhishek Sharma the latest name added to the list of fitness worries. After Washington Sundar, Harshit Rana and Jasprit Bumrah battled health issues earlier in the tournament, Abhishek is now reportedly unwell and was even hospitalised as his condition worsened ahead of India’s crucial group-stage fixtures.

According to reports, Abhishek is suffering from an infection, although the team’s official communication has described it as a fever. The 25-year-old featured in India’s tournament opener against the USA despite running a high temperature.
Abhishek Sharma opened the innings but was dismissed for a golden duck and later did not take the field during the USA chase, raising concerns about his fitness. He was also missing from the team dugout, with reports suggesting he was put on a drip for immediate medical relief.

Abhishek’s absence from India’s training session in New Delhi on Tuesday further underlined the seriousness of the situation. The Men in Blue are scheduled to face Namibia in their second Group A encounter, and team management is monitoring the youngster closely.
“Abhi still has a few issues with his tummy. We’re hopeful he’ll be available for the game in a couple of days,” India assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate said, hinting that the final team combination will depend heavily on Abhishek’s recovery.

There was, however, some positive news on the fitness front. Jasprit Bumrah, who missed the opening game due to illness, is expected to return for the Namibia clash. The pace spearhead has resumed bowling in training and is said to be feeling significantly better.
“Bumrah has been about ten days without bowling, but he’s moving well now. We’ll assess him after training and take a call closer to the match,” Ryan ten Doeschate added.

With a demanding schedule ahead and the Pakistan clash looming, India will be eager to have their full-strength XI available as they look to build momentum in the T20 World Cup.
