Former India player Saba Karim has said that Tilak Varma is poised to return to his best form soon. His comments came before India’s T20 World Cup 2026 Super 8 match against South Africa, slated to take place on Sunday, February 22, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Speaking in a discussion on Cricinfo Hindi on February 21, Saba said, “This strike rate sometimes creates an illusion. We have to keep in mind that Tilak Varma has played very well in the past 1-2 years. And sometimes you are forced to play according to the situation. So this is the role of Tilak Varma. And the World Cup is a tournament where there is no need for last-minute changes, neither in approach nor in personnel. And this is what India has done so far.”

“And I believe that the way Tilak Varma has batted, as soon as he feels that the time is coming, he is getting that kind of feeling, the ball is coming on the bat, then we will see the same strike rate. Many times, when you come back after an injury, it takes some time to recover, to find form again. So I think that phase of Tilak Varma is going to end now,” he further added.

However, Saba Karim also added that there will be some changes in India’s batting, although they might not happen against South Africa as well.

“I expect that there will be a change, but it depends on the bowlers in the opposition. I don’t think I am expecting much change against South Africa, because South Africa’s strength is their pace bowling. Sky is a great option. As Sky has said many times, that we only have the permanency of the opening pair. After that, we have all kinds of floaters. So depending on the situation, we can expect that change,” Saba Karim concluded.
