The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday officially announced the schedule for the Afghanistan national cricket team’s tour of India in June 2026. The tour will feature one Test match followed by a three-match One-Day International (ODI) series, marking a significant chapter in the growing cricketing relationship between the two sides.

The lone Test match will be played at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh from June 6 to June 10, with the match scheduled to begin at 9:30 AM IST each day. Although the red-ball contest carries plenty of interest, it will not be part of the ICC World Test Championship cycle.
Following the Test, the focus will shift to the ODI format with a historic bilateral series between the two teams. The first ODI will take place in Dharamshala on June 14. The series will then move to Lucknow for the second match on June 17 before concluding in Chennai on June 20. All three ODIs will start at 1:30 PM IST.

Interestingly, while India and Afghanistan have faced each other several times in ICC tournaments and continental competitions, they have never played a bilateral ODI series before. This makes the upcoming contest a historic first in the 50-over format outside global tournaments.

The two sides previously met in a landmark Test in 2018 when Afghanistan, led by Asghar Afghan, played their inaugural Test after receiving full-member status from the International Cricket Council. That match, held at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, ended in a dominant innings victory for India, powered by centuries from Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan.
