Former Mohammad Amir found himself back in the spotlight after reacting to India’s historic triumph in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The former Pakistan fast bowler had earlier predicted that the India national cricket team would fail to reach the semifinals of the tournament, a forecast that eventually proved far from reality. India went on to dominate the competition and sealed the title with a commanding performance against the New Zealand national cricket team in the final at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium.

The Men in Blue registered a massive 96-run victory, capping off a remarkable campaign. After India lifted the trophy, Amir was asked about his earlier prediction and how he viewed the outcome. In a video that quickly went viral on social media, the former pacer responded with a straightforward remark.
“India won; that’s fine. They’re not going to bring the trophy to my house anyway. They’ll take it to their own place and celebrate. Okay, well done,” Mohammad Amir said.

His comments sparked discussion online, especially considering the criticism he had faced during the tournament. Fellow Pakistani cricketer Ahmed Shehzad later stepped in to defend Amir, explaining that predictions are simply part of cricket analysis.
“Come on, yaar; these are just cricketing predictions. Amir gave his opinion based on his experience. You should learn to tolerate it,” Shehzad remarked.

Amir had been heavily trolled on social media after India secured their semifinal spot with a win over the West Indies cricket team earlier in the tournament. The trolling intensified after India continued their winning run and eventually clinched the title.
In the final itself, India delivered a clinical performance. Batting first, the hosts piled up a massive 255/5 in 20 overs. Sanju Samson led the charge with a superb 89 off 46 balls, while Ishan Kishan smashed 54 from just 25 deliveries. Young opener Abhishek Sharma also contributed a fluent 51, giving India a formidable total.

The bowlers then ensured New Zealand never threatened the chase. India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah produced a sensational spell, claiming 4 wickets for 15 runs, while Axar Patel picked up three wickets. Bumrah’s match-winning performance earned him the Player of the Match award, as India completed a memorable victory to secure their third T20 World Cup title.
