As a result of the offence, Arshdeep has been fined 15 percent of his match fee, while one demerit point has been added to his disciplinary record. The ICC clarified that this was Arshdeep’s first offence in the last 24 months, meaning the punishment remained within the standard framework for a Level 1 breach.

The incident occurred during the 11th over of New Zealand’s innings at the Narendra Modi Stadium. After completing his follow-through, Arshdeep collected the ball and threw it back aggressively towards the batter. The throw struck New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell on the pads, prompting the match officials to review the incident.

The charge was levelled by the on-field umpires Richard Illingworth and Alex Wharf, along with third umpire Allahuddien Paleker and fourth umpire Adrian Holdstock.

Match referee Andy Pycroft of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel imposed the sanction. Arshdeep accepted the penalty without contesting the charge, which meant a formal disciplinary hearing was not required.

Under ICC regulations, Level 1 offences can result in penalties ranging from an official reprimand to a fine of up to 50 percent of a player’s match fee, along with one or two demerit points.
