Indian all-rounder Shivam Dube played a crucial role in India’s triumphant campaign at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, contributing significantly with both bat and ball. The powerful left-hander featured in all nine matches for the world’s No. 1 ranked T20I side and finished with 235 runs while also claiming five wickets during the tournament. His performances added valuable balance to the Indian lineup as the team marched towards a historic title win.

Dube’s most memorable contribution came in the final against the New Zealand national cricket team at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium on March 8. Walking in during the closing stages of the innings, the Mumbai all-rounder delivered a brief yet explosive cameo that helped India post a massive total. He smashed 26 runs off just eight balls, with 24 of those runs coming in the final over of the innings.

Shivam Dube hammered three boundaries and two towering sixes in that over, giving India the late surge they needed in the title clash. While his performance on the field grabbed headlines, Dube’s journey back home after the final revealed a fascinating story off the field.

According to a report by The Indian Express, the 31-year-old chose an unusual route to return to Mumbai after the celebrations in Ahmedabad. With flights from Ahmedabad to Mumbai completely booked following India’s World Cup triumph, Dube decided to travel by train instead.

Despite knowing that fans might recognise him along the way, Dube prioritised reaching home quickly to reunite with his family — especially his four-year-old son, Ayaan, and two-year-old daughter, Mehwish. Accompanied by his wife, Anjum Khan, and a friend, he booked tickets in the 3rd AC compartment of an early morning train.

To avoid attracting attention, Dube adopted a low profile. Wearing a cap, mask, and full-sleeved T-shirt, he waited in the car until just minutes before departure before rushing onto the platform. Once inside the train, he climbed to the top berth to remain out of sight.

At one point, even the travelling ticket examiner asked if the passenger might be the Indian cricketer. Anjum cleverly dismissed the suggestion, helping Dube maintain his disguise throughout the journey.

The trip passed smoothly, but Dube remained cautious about being recognised upon arrival in Mumbai. To avoid chaos at the station, he contacted local police before getting down at Borivali. Authorities provided a police escort, ensuring he could leave the station safely and head home to celebrate India’s World Cup triumph with his family.
