India’s 2026 T20 World Cup-winning team captain Suryakumar Yadav met former India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni ahead of the start of the tournament and received valuable advice from him before the Men in Blue begin their T20 World Cup title defence in front of home fans on February 7. Surya, who became the third Indian captain after Dhoni and Rohit Sharma to win the T20 World Cup title on March 8 in Ahmedabad, revealed Dhoni’s advice during a recent interaction with reporters upon returning to Mumbai and stated that the legendary wicketkeeper-batter told him how to approach an ICC event.

“I had met him (MS Dhoni) before the tournament, and he told me how to approach an ICC tournament. He told me that we have a good team; we just have to be courageous, and we will definitely win. His reaction after the win was amazing,” Suryakumar Yadav said.

“It feels good to win 24 and 26 back-to-back. It is a very special feeling. When we won in 2024, we thought it would be so special to do this again at home in 2026,” Suryakumar Yadav told PTI Videos. “The next target is to win the Olympic gold in 2028. The team has good momentum. If India wins the T20 World Cup in the same year, it will be great,” he added.
