Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube, two key members of India’s victorious campaign in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, recently met Devendra Fadnavis, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, at his official residence, Varsha Bungalow in Mumbai. The meeting turned into a proud and celebratory moment as the Chief Minister felicitated the two cricketers for their role in India’s historic World Cup triumph.

A video shared by ANI captured the warm welcome, showing Fadnavis greeting and embracing both players upon their arrival. The Chief Minister also shared the moment on social media, expressing his admiration for their achievements. In his post, he described it as a proud moment for the nation and praised both cricketers for inspiring millions with their performances.

India’s title win came after a commanding victory over the New Zealand national cricket team in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The Indian side dominated the contest, registering a comprehensive 96-run victory that sparked celebrations across the country.

Both Suryakumar and Dube played significant roles during the tournament. Their contributions with the bat and on the field proved vital as India successfully defended the T20 World Cup title. After the final, however, the two players had very different journeys back home to Mumbai.

While Suryakumar returned by flight, Dube’s journey turned into a memorable story of its own. With no flights available, the all-rounder opted to travel by train from Ahmedabad early the next morning. Speaking to The Indian Express, Dube explained that he chose the faster option despite considering a road trip.

“There was no flight available, so I decided to take a train from Ahmedabad early in the morning to Mumbai. We could have gone by road, but the train was faster,” Shivam Dube said. He travelled with his wife and a close friend, booking 3rd AC tickets for the journey. “Me, my wife and a friend decided to take a train. 3rd AC tickets were available, so we decided to book them,” he added.

Despite some concerns about being recognised by fans during the trip, Dube was eager to return home to his children — four-year-old son Aayan and two-year-old daughter Mehwish — who were waiting for him in Mumbai. The meeting with the Chief Minister eventually capped off a memorable few days for both cricketers and the nation.
